Here are my Top Ten Things to Be Thankful For:
1. God’s Power, Love, Grace and Mercy.
2. Jesus’ life as a human and His unbelievable sacrifice.
3. The Holy Spirit’s discernment that gives me guidance and makes it so that I can believe and somewhat understand Jesus’ sacrifice.
4. My salvation because of the above.
5. Creation - God’s astoundingly beautiful, life-giving gift to humanity.
6. My parents, who raised me to believe in God and to grow my own faith.
7. My husband who has taught me about unconditional love.
8. My sisters who share a strong genetic and emotional history with me that binds us together as nothing else could.
9. God’s word and the multifaceted ways I have been given to study and share it.
10. Relationships - gifts from God because He knows how much we need each other to survive in this world.

I'd love to see someone else's list! (hint, hint!)

Day 1 was revealing.  When I looked at her 4 categories for rating my "Gratitude Quotient", I decided that I waffle between “I know I’ve been greatly blessed, but I don’t often stop to actually express my gratitude to God and others.”  and “I’m a whiner!  I tend to focus on my problems and I frequently express them to others.”  Certainly not where I want to be.

I also found it hard to write my prayer - got caught up in the writing process rather than expressing sincerely.  Anyone make a practice of writing prayers that can offer advice?

Friends,

At our last book club, we discussed working through the 30 day devotional at the back of the book, Choosing Gratitude, which we read last November.  Anyone who would like to participate is welcome to do so.  (I think, Jana, you said you have already completed the devos, but we would still love for you to share with us!)

We are planning to start on June 1st and each try to complete 5 days per week.  The idea is then to share some of what we've gleaned from the devos through writing our thoughts.  Lee Ann is hoping to set up a blog on which we can write, or we can send e-mails.

My main reason for wanting to do this is two-fold.  1) To keep me accountable for keeping up with the daily work and 2) because I know I get exponentially more out of something if I share what I've learned with others and hear what they have gained as well.  (Isn't this the whole idea behind a book club!?)

If you'd like to join us, get ready to start on Saturday.  Below is a schedule.  Don't feel obligated to have to share something with all of us daily but please let us hear from you often.  We'll all be better for it!

THANKS!
Sherry

  4. I found Day 10 to be particularly interesting - Thankfulness in Reverse. I believe I could sit here for days adding to my list!

  5. I'm only on day 3 (better late than never), but already find my consciousness of being grateful is increasing. I love how the idea of creating your own thankfulness story in the style of Psalm 107!
